Ah... Katrina, perhaps I can suggest you the suitable colour for the skin. Although I'm usually a trad artist, I sometimes use the homebrew 'Colors!' on my NDS, so I knew abit about digital arts.

If you want to put on a skin colour, pick a colour that is between yellow and red hue (orange, red or yellow, it depends on your taste).

Then, this is the one that you messed up abit, the shade of her skin. You just need to pick something only a little darker to the skin colour, and that's the exact colour you picked before for the skin. Again, you might have different taste, so experiment!

After that, you have to determine the light source to know where to put on the shadow. My best ref for this so far is 'More How to Draw Manga : Enhancing a Character's Sense of Presence'. If not, try to find anything that explains this well to you. I'm still not good at this though, so I can't help you anyway...

And to place the shadows well... maybe practice will be the best solution. I don't know how actually you put those shadows with (mouse, tablet, etc.) It might be hard to us mouse for that, but once you're good with the mouse, it's not a problem anymore right? ^^
